How To Test Patch Skincare
POV: It’s your birthday and you decide to use a new product without test patching first. You apply it all over your face. You have an allergic reaction and within 5 minutes your entire face and neck is covered in a hot/red rash. It was me. I was the birthday girl. And yes I should have done a test patch first. That is why I am now writing to you, to make sure you test patch.
But why do I need to test patch?
Maybe you’re like me and react to everything and anything (literally) or you have no allergies at all (I envy you, seriously), everyone needs to test patch new skincare products. Skin is super unique. What works for your friend will not necessarily work for you. You want to make sure your skin is A-OK with the product before you slather it on. There is nothing worse than putting a new skincare product all over your face just to have a nasty reaction. No thanks !
How do I test patch?
Step 1: Choose an area to test patch. Remember your face/neck tend to be more sensitive than other areas of your body so its important to test patch in one of these areas to give you good idea of how your skin is going to react (or not react). We recommend test patching behind your ear or on your jaw line as your can easily cover these areas if you do react.
Step 2: Apply a small amount of the product to your test patch area as directed (eg. if its a mask leave it on for the correct amount of time)
Step 3: Sit back and watch. If you experience any sort of reaction (including redness, itchiness, tingling, heat or stinging) cleanse the skin immediately to remove the product. If you don’t, then leave it on and see how your skin feeling over the next 12-24 hrs.
Note: Some products do naturally have some side effects especially active ingredients. If in doubt remove the product immediately and consult with a beautician. doctor, pharmacist or dermatologist about your concerns.
Step 4: Enjoy your products! You can now add this product into your regular routine and use it all over your face/neck
