Think you may have sensitive skin? You’ve come to the right page. First things first, sensitive skin is more of a skin condition then skin type meaning its something that is often caused by external factors such as the products you are using or environmental conditions. That’s not to say genetics don’t play a role, because they certainly do, however a lot of the time, people skin is effected by things they put on it.
The good news is that there are some key signs that your skin is sensitive.
1. Your prone to redness and irritation
If you find yourself easily developing redness and irritation when using certain products, or even when exposed to certain environmental triggers, this could be a sign of sensitive skin.
2. Your skin is easily inflamed
If you find that your skin is easily inflamed, whether it’s after using a product or coming into contact with an allergen, this could be a sign that you have sensitive skin.
3. You’re prone to breakouts
If you find that your skin is prone to breakouts, this could be another sign of sensitive skin. Breakouts can be caused by a variety of factors, but if you’re finding that your skin is reacting negatively when exposed to certain products or environmental triggers, it’s worth looking into if you have sensitive skin.
4. Your skin is dry, tight and stinging
If you skin is often dry, tight and stingy after using certain products, your skin is most definitely sensitive to that product.
So now you have determined that you have sensitive skin, what next? It is important to use the right products and proper skin care techniques to ensure your skin is cool, calm and happy (like me on a vacation). Here are a few things we recommend:
1. Gentle cleanser
One of the most important things to remember when caring for sensitive skin is to cleanse gently. Use a gentle cleanser that is free from harsh and drying ingredients, and wash your face with lukewarm water. Avoid harsh scrubs and exfoliators, as this can irritate the skin. We highly recommend our Clean Slate Cleanser, made just for our sensitive skin besties.
2. Moisturise regularly
It’s important to keep your skin moisturized to prevent it from becoming dry and irritated. Choose a moisturizer that is specifically designed for sensitive skin, like our Must Have Moistursier.
3. Use sunscreen
Sunscreen is an important part of skin care, regardless of skin type. However, it’s especially important for those with sensitive skin, as their skin is more prone to irritation and sun damage. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it every day.
4. Avoid excessive heat
Heat can be damaging to sensitive skin, so it’s important to avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and sunbathing. If you’re going to be in the sun, make sure to wear a hat or sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
5. Use products deisnged for senstive skin
